I decided to get back into my producing boots as part of my own personal contribution to Bradford 2025 and made this event happen as part of the Cathedral's Global Connections programme. It was pure joy to stage this event and also to have Ilkley Youth Choir perform a fabulous curtain raiser for us. Read on . . .

I first met Mauro, who is an incredibly gifted, classical virtuoso pianist, as we were floating across the Atlantic Ocean en route to Rio de Janeiro. Mauro was performing his world acclaimed show “Piano Fantasy” and at the point when I found emotional tears of joy running down my face. I turned to my husband who gave me a knowing look. Sure enough on the applause (and as I was mopping up) I whispered, “I want to bring this man to Bradford to play in the Cathedral”and that was that. We met with Mauro for a coffee and a “chat” some days later after his second show, which was equally breathtaking. During this meeting I extended an invitation for Mauro to travel to Bradford to perform in our glorious Cathedral and what better year than our Bradford 2025, City of Culture and as part of the Cathedral’s Global Connections programme.
Born in Turin, Mauro obtained his diploma in piano at the G Verdi Conservatory and then went on to further study in Madrid, Saint Petersburg and London with Francois Joel Thollier, Michael Pletnev and Jacques Loussier. He regularly collaborates with the RAI National Symphony Orchestra and participates in many tours in Europe, America and Asia, where he plays under the direction of important conductors like Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Muti and Laurin Maazel.
He has written soundtracks for TV and performed in Italy's major theatres and across the globe. He is currently working on a new album including re-imaginings of the great classics. His main shows are “Forbidden Colours”, a musical voyage that explores worlds that live beyond space and time and “Piano Fantasy”, another showcase of Mauro’s skill and virtuosity. It is from these two shows that Mauro delighted the audience at the Cathedral.

This is what the audience had to say . .

" ... An incredibly night of music. We left feeling inspired and in awe of Mauro’s beautiful and passionate performance".

" ... The music was wonderful but Mauro also projected considerable emotion that washed over the audience in waves. A truly special experience provided by the virtuoso performer. Congratulations for creating such a special event".

" ... Fabulous evening! I realised I was holding my breath on at least two occasions"!

" ... He was an outstanding performer. We enjoyed the way he spoke in between each piece and there was a good variety of music. The whole concert was mesmerising".

Stay tuned for more Mauro in 2026!
